RULES AS OF AUGUST 12, 2021
No one may enter the competition facility without:
- Satisfactory proof of vaccination, OR
- A negative COVID-19 test result within 48 hours of admission to the facility
On August 3, 2021, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the nation’s first vaccine mandate applying not only to employees, but also patrons of indoor dining facilities, indoor fitness facilities, and indoor entertainment facilities. The effective date of the mandate is August 16, 2021.† The Skating Club of New York respects that mandate.
That said, many of our competitors are under 12 and therefore ineligible to be vaccinated. Others may have medical, religious or logistical reasons for not being vaccinated. To accommodate them, yet ensure the safety of our participants, we support a practice that has become commonplace among airlines and sports venues – a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of flight or admission.
The Skating Club of New York has outsourced verification and last-minute testing services to a HIPAA-compliant company that specializes in such services for the airlines, sporting events and live performances. We are in the process of selecting such a company and will furnish details shortly.
Once admitted to Sky Rink, there will be the following additional safety rules:
- All skaters must wear masks at all times except when on the ice for practice or competition. Spectators and coaches must wear masks at all times when in the facility.
- U.S. Figure Skating Waivers are required for ALL athletes. The online waivers must be completed via Members Only prior to the competition, instruction Here.
- Skaters are permitted a maximum of one guest per event at the competition. This is to ensure proper social distancing.
- When skaters and coaches may enter the rink facility will also be controlled.
Please consult the Entries and Results page before you arrive for Initial Start Orders, Short Program Results, Free Skate Start Orders, and Free Skate Results. Click on the QR code posted here and around the rink for instant access to the Entries and Results page.
Skaters may not enter the Sky Rink facility more than ___ minutes before their scheduled practice ice, warmup or event, and must leave the facility within ___ minutes after the presentation of awards for that event. For skaters with both short and free programs, they must leave the facility within ____ minutes of the conclusion of the short program. Registration will be at a designated station outside the enclosed Sky Rink facility.
† New York City will begin inspecting facilities and enforcing the new vaccine mandate the week of September 13, 2021, but it was the unanimous decision of SCNY’s board of directors and Chelsea Piers management to respect the mandate’s effective date of August 16th.
