Chelsea Piers has advised the facility suffered significant damage from the storm. Sky Rink itself weathered the storm needing few repairs, and they were able to save the ice with a back-up generator. However, while Con Ed has restored power to most of Manhattan, Chelsea Piers suffered damage to its electric switchgear rooms, thereby preventing the restoration of power until the system is repaired. They plan to re-open Sky Rink on Saturday, December 1st.
The RINX in Hauppauge, WOLLMAN Rink in Central Park and SPORT-O-RAMA in Monsey are OPEN. Chelsea Piers in Stamford, Connecticut is also open and if you want information contact Karen Hawes at hawesk@chelseapiersct.com

The November 14th Test Session at Sky Rink has been canceled. The test session is not being rescheduled. Those who were signed up for 11/14 will get first priority on the December 12th test session.

Anne Gerli, an SCNY member since the early 1940's and the recipient of the 2007-08 Professional Skaters Association Distinguished Judge Award, has always been interested in and actively promoted the development of young skaters in the US. It was during a Mid Atlantics in the early 1990s that U.S. Skating's Junior Figure Skating Championships, initially called Junior Olympics, was born  due to the drive and organizational skills of Mrs. Gerli and other club members. At that point in time, there wasn't much to showcase the skaters under the novice level. It seemed to Mrs. Gerli they deserved an event of their own. "We thought it would be good for young skaters to get together from the different parts of the country before competing at big nationals. The goal was to take  youngsters in the juvenile and intermediate categories from each section of the country and have them compete."  Mrs. Gerli said. "We got it done with the cooperation of the [U.S. Figure Skating] competition committee, and it grew to be a huge event." This year for the first time, Junior Nationals will become part of the US Championships.
Mrs. Gerli was also the creator of the Young Internationals program for USFS. This program sent young American skaters to European non-qualifying competitions . The purpose was to teach the up and coming athletes, all about competing at Internationals as well as learning team spirit and how to act as an athlete and a young adult. During the program's  existence skaters like Sarah and Emily Hughes and Evan Lysacek were able to represent the US when they were at the Novice level.
This year's recipients of the Anne Gerli Award are Liza Hayes, SC Of Boston and Maxwell Gart, Charter Oak FSC
