At the 2018 Winter Olympics, they became the first ice dancers of Asian descent to win medals at the Olympics and are only the second sibling duo in the history of the sport to medal in Ice Dance.

Off the ice, Maia and Alex are authors, as well as active ambassadors and supporters for various organizations. Their first book, Kudo Kids: The Mystery of the Masked Medalist was released in September 2020. The second book of their series for young readers, Kudo Kids: The Mystery in Manhattan, is being released on May 4th, 2021.

It’s truly remarkable that sister and brother Maia and Alex Shibutani, who just happen to be very well known for their excellence in skating, have taken that same champion level approach to creating Kudo Kids. Everyone loves a great mystery, and Kudo Kids delivers a fun and exciting adventure aimed for young readers, that everyone can enjoy. I have a strong feeling this could be the beginning of something BIG!
― Scott Hamilton, Olympic Champion

The Kudo Kids are back in this fun filled, fast-paced middle-grade mystery from two-time Olympic bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani, perfect for fans of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library.

Andy and Mika are about to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

When the Kudo Kids travel to New York City for the first time, they're ready to hit the ground running and see the sights. But the siblings quickly realize that they're excited for very different reasons--Mika wants to take photos of iconic landmarks and visit a famous camera store, while Andy can't wait to try out an escape room that one of his friends told him about.

Both of their plans get shaken up when they learn that Aunt Kei is in desperate need of assistance as she prepares for an important fashion presentation. Not wanting to pass up an opportunity to explore, Andy and Mika enthusiastically volunteer to help run errands with their cousin, Jenny.

When a very special dress, the centerpiece of Aunt Kei's collection, goes missing, they find themselves on a chase around the city to find it in another unforgettable mystery that will leave readers guessing until the very end.

Full of tasty food, stylish characters, and plenty of adventure, this journey through New York City is for mystery lovers everywhere!

From two-time Olympic bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani comes a fun-filled, fast-paced middle-grade mystery set at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Andy and Mika are going to Tokyo!

The Kudo Kids have never been to Japan before, so they can’t believe they get to attend the Summer Olympics there. The siblings plan to eat tons of delicious Japanese food, watch every event they can, and win a super-popular new game called OlympiFan.

Developed by a mysterious former medalist, OlympiFan brings players together from all over the world to search Tokyo for virtual medals and clues to the creator’s identity. Andy loves puzzles, and he’s determined to crack this one, especially since the winning team will get to be beta testers for the Masked Medalist’s future games!

Mika wants to find as many clues as she can, but she also has a secret goal of her own–one that could get her into big trouble. But when someone sabotages the game, the Kudo Kids have an even bigger mystery to solve than the Masked Medalist’s identity. If they want to capture the gold, Mika and Andy have to figure out who’s trying to stop their team before someone beats them to the grand prize!

A gold medal debut for the ShibSibs! This fun, fast-paced mystery with two fierce new detectives–the Kudo Kids–will keep young readers turning the pages until the twisty end!
— Elizabeth Eulberg, author of The Great Shelby Holmes series
Maia and Alex Shibutani have written a delightful game of a book full of surprises and heart. I loved experiencing Tokyo through the eyes of the Kudo kids, and I can’t wait to see where they travel next.

Obtaining Test Credit by Competing

Background

In accordance with Rules TR 3.00, 4.01 and 4.02, skaters may now receive US Figure Skating test credit by meeting certain minimum PCS, TES and TSS scores at any U.S. competition held under the International Judging System (IJS). The athlete must “skate-up” and compete in the event for which they are seeking test credit, in addition to having already passed any prerequisites prior to the competition event.

For example, if an individual junior-level freestyle skater seeks senior-level freestyle test credit via IJS protocol, he or she must enter an IJS competition as a senior-level skater and meet the minimum PCS, TES and TSS requirements for senior-level test credit during that competition. Entering a junior-level event will not suffice in this example, regardless of score.

Eligible events:

Click here for an information packet explaining how to obtain USFS test credit by competing.

The information packet contains forms that you and your coach need to complete and submit to the Skating Club of New York, together with a Test Credit Packet from the competition host, in order for us to process the competition protocols correctly. There is a $25 fee for this service, payable on-line when you submit the completed information package.

 Test Credit Package

(obtained by the skater or coach from the competition chair or host)

  • Your event segment results cover page. It must include the referee's and technical controller's signatures.
    Example
  • Your individual protocol.
    Example
  • Your Test Credit Skater Report, generated by the accountant. This has your name, your scores, and verifies you achieved a passing result.
    Example
  • Your Coach's signed statement.
    Example

These materials must be submitted, together with completed copies of the forms in the SCNY information packet, before the Skating Club of New York can process a competition protocol for US Figure Skating test credit.

How to Submit Documents for Test Credit

  • Make sure your documents are in acceptable electronic format. We accept PDF, JPG, TIF and ZIP files. If you do not have a scanner, a really clean digital photo of each document will do.
  • Have your credit card or PayPal login information ready.
  • Click the Add to Cart button in the Step 1 section and proceed to checkout. You should receive an automated receipt from us after you have paid the $25 reporting fee. Please jot down the Order ID at the top of the receipt. You will need it to complete the next step.
  • Complete the skater name, email, USFS number, phone number and order ID fields in Step 2.
  • Upload the files by clicking the Choose Files button. Upload multiple files by holding down the CTRL key while selecting them in your file browser.
  • Enter the Captcha and click the Submit button.
  • You should receive an automated email from us listing the files you have submitted.

Do not proceed to Step 2 until you have completed Step 1. Only paid submissions will be reviewed.

STEP 1STEP 2

Please refer to the confirmation email you received when you competed on-line payment in Step 1. The Order ID is at the top of the confirmation. We will not process any IJS protocol for test credit if the Order ID is invalid.

Our first annual Yearbook was a great success. Now is the time to place your ad for the 2016-2017 Season Yearbook. The complimentary yearbook will be mailed to all SCNY members. We hope you will join in the celebration.

Another extraordinary year for The Skating Club of New York is winding down, with seven medals at the US Figure Skating Championships -- including national titles in senior dance (Maia and Alex Shibutani) and senior pairs (Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier), four Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix finalists, thirteen Grand Prix, Challenger Series and Junior Grand Prix medals, and three international medals for our Skyliners’ junior and senior lines.

2018 Skating Club of New York Yearbook

Don't miss out. Place your ad in the Third Annual SCNY Yearbook NOW!

We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed ads to the 2016 and 2017 editions. You made the SCNY Yearbook not only possible, but free to all SCNY members. We think the yearbook is the only perquisite of its kind among major US Figure Skating clubs. To keep this unique perk going, please consider taking out an ad.

Special offer

To generate additional ad revenue, we are rewarding each skater who brings in a full-page commercial ad (one that promotes a business or non-skating organization) with a free SCNY club session at Chelsea Piers Sky Rink during the 2017-18 season, with no limit on the number of club sessions a skater can "earn." If you skate at Sport-O-Rama, the Rinx, City Ice Pavilion, Dix Hills or Chelsea Piers Connecticut, we have a limited number of freestyle sessions to offer -- first come, first serve. To qualify for a freestyle or club session reward, simply ask the business or non-skating organization to complete the order reservation and payment form (see Step One below) and to include the referring skater's name and USFS number in the corresponding fields of the payment section, together with the words "skater referral" in the checkout section's comment box. We will notify you once we have received payment and send you the freestyle or club session voucher that you prefer.

It has been an extraordinary year for The Skating Club of New York, with three Olympic bronze medals, a silver medal in dance at the world junior championships, the first-ever medal by a junior team at synchro worlds (a silver!), eight medals at the US Figure Skating Championships, including a national junior dance title, plus five medals at synchro nationals, including junior and novice national titles and plus berths at worlds for both a senior and junior team.

In addition to our Team USA skaters, we are immensely proud of the nearly 1,000 SCNY members of all levels and ages who compete locally, nationally and internationally, skate on one of our synchronized skating teams, appear in exhibitions, take freestyle, ice dance and moves-in-the-field tests, participate in Learn to Skate programs, and just skate their hearts out across our twelve member rinks. The purpose of the yearbook is to celebrate that commitment and we sincerely hope you will take part in it.
